Together with our millions of supporters, the American Cancer Society has been working for more than 100 years to achieve our vision of a world free from the pain and suffering of cancer. With the help of people like you, we have made great progress: The overall cancer death rate has declined by 23 percent since 1991. That translates to 1.7 million deaths from cancer avoided. But, as you know, there is still work to do. In fact, more than 48,000 Georgians will be diagnosed with cancer this year. From research to education, and treatment to recovery, the Society provides support to everyone impacted by cancer.
The American Cancer Society fosters innovation by conducting groundbreaking research and funding pioneering scientists. For nearly seven decades, the American Cancer Society has been finding answers that save lives. In fact, no single nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization in the US has invested more to find the causes of and treatments for cancer. There are currently $5.8 million in active research grants at institutions right here in Georgia, and millions more across the country that will provide new breakthroughs for people in every community.
As a result, the Society has played a role in nearly every major cancer research breakthrough in recent history, including:
Millions of people turn to the Society every year for support and guidance. We deepen understanding by listening to those in need of support and guiding them to essential resources. We provide care by delivering crucial health information and vital patient services.
The Society also raises awareness and encourages prevention by advocating for lifesaving changes, promoting early screening, and empowering people to make healthy lifestyle choices.
Thanks to supporters like you, we are a united force against all cancers. And, we’re on a mission to save lives and celebrate life. Every single day. Thank you for helping us free the world from the pain and suffering of cancer.
